Aryan Rahmanian was born in 1976 in Khorasan (northeastern Iran). From an early age he was exposed to both Persian classical music and the folk music of Khorasan. He started singing at the early age of ten. His formal education began at the age of fifteen, when he moved to Tehran. He studied the vocal Radif with several distinguished singers and masters of Radif, including Nasrollah-i Nasihpoor and Moohsin Kiramati. At the same time, he studied Tar and Setar with Mansur Sinaki. For a time Aryan studied with master Mohammad Reza Lotfi who helped him to learn many techniques required for a Persian classical vocalist. Aryan is deeply inspired by several undisputed masters of Persian classical singing such as Muhammad Reza Shajarian, Taj Isfahani, Banan, and Zaeli. He also loves Persian folk music, especially Kurdish and Khorasani.
Aryan’s first professional performance was in 1993 at the Razi High School in Tehran. Since then, he has performed in many music festivals and concerts in Iran and abroad, including the International Festival of Traditional and Classical Music in Vienna, the Annual Conference of Iranian Cultural Heritage in Chicago, the International Festival of Folk music in California, and various concert tours throughout the U.S. His performances have been broadcasted by Radio Payam-i Doost (Washington DC), the Iranian Radio of Nashville and KPFA radio in Berkeley. Aryan is collaborating with the Neydavood Ensemble, and teaches at the Tar School, a center for the study of traditional Iranian music in northern California.
