Fares Hedayati was born in 1980 in Iran. Being fascinated by Persian music and especially rhythm, he started playing Tombak (Goblet Drum) at the early age of eight. In 1992 Fares started his musical training with Mr. Hatami, one of the best students of the late Farhangfar.
Fares has studied various methods of playing as pioneered by such renowned masters as Farhangfar, Esmaeeli, Rajabi, Tehrani, and Eftetah. His acquaintance with different schools and methods of playing Tombak as well as performing with different musicians have increased both his innovative character and musical experience.
Fares has performed in various musical festivals and concerts both in Iran and abroad. He is a member of the Ney Davoud Ensemble and teaches Tombak at the Tar School, an educational institution of Persian Classical music in Northern California.
